Inishowen Summer Gathering - an update.
The Inishowen Gathering Group held it's first A.G.M. on Monday,
October 17th, 2005.
This meeting was well attended and many of those present were eager
to become part of the committee. Outgoing Chairperson Kathleen O'Hara
gave her report on the event and Treasurer Brendan Farren read a
financial report. The Gathering made a small profit which will go
towards next year's event.
Guest speaker of the evening was Sr. Nellie McLaughlin, local author
and lecturer in ecology.Nellie gave an inspiring talk, reminding
us all that we are only a part of the population of Inishowen and
that we should take good care of the abundant wildlife of the peninsula.
She described last year's event as being a "convergence of
like minded people" and said that people today are becoming
more aware of a need for sustainability and living in closer harmony
with the Earth, but this is happening only slowly, so events like
the Gathering are needed to promote these ideas. She also quoted
Margaret Mead, saying " never doubt that a small group of committed
people can change the world, it's the only thing that ever has."
The original committee of four members stepped down from their
positions. Unfortunately, Brendan & Kathleen will be unable
to take part in next year's event due to other commitments.
Thanks and appreciation goes to both of them for their tireless
work last year, and we wish them all the best in their plans for
the coming year. Hopefully they will be back on board for 2007.
On a more positive note, however, twelve new members joined! Out
